The Jiverz Story
I formed The Jiverz Band in the Summer of 2022 to break free from the shackles of the pandemic and to celebrate the birth of my grand daughter Tara. I always had the intention of forming a slow mood Retro Band with the main intention of attentive listening. Our first gig was at Skinny Mo’s ( 16th June 2022 ) and we then had Diya Bhattacharya on vocals, the rest of the Band Members have more or less remained the same over the years. Originally we were a 6 piece Band with Sayan Mukerji on Bass , Tilak Kundu on Drums , Kushal Kundu on Guitars, Renfred Anderson on Keyboards & Kaushik Sen on percussions. We subsequently had Ricardo Gome ( left for Canada) & then Bryce D’ Rozario and finally we have Gordon Anderson on guitars. Our initial repertoire consisted of Sade , Roberta Flack , J J Cale , Dire Straits, Benny E King , Eagles , Bill Withers , etc. . All retro rock music of the 70’s & 80’s. We have subsequently played twice more at Skinny Mo's on popular request , to full houses. This has been a great priviledge & honour.
Tolly Club signed us for our first Concert on the 30th of July 2022. Unfortunately , Diya was down with Covid and Sucheta Sanyal ( with whom I had performed earlier ) was serendipity as she boldly held stage after only one practice. Ricardo Gomes joined us in the rhythm guitar. The rest of the band members remained the same. I immediately realized the band’s musical potential with Sucheta’s big powerful booming voice. The success of this Concert was huge and we started getting instant Media attention. I also realized that we needed a full Concert experience with a supportive smart stage production with giant customized LED & Lights adding to the musical experience. I have been consistent with my theme over the years a) let the music speak for itself so there is attentive listening b ) let the audience have a complete Concert Experience.
In August of 2022 we had our own Concert at ICCR to a full house. We named this “ The Freedom Concert” and we had a message for the Audience in our 75th year of Freedom, and we asked very pertinent questions . Is Freedom at the beginning or at the very end ? Is Freedom inward or outward ? We dedicated our own composition “ Freedom “ to late P C Mukherjee legendary guitarist of Shiva.
In Nov of 2022 , we had our first open air concert at prestigious Bengal Club. This was a huge success from the production aspect too and we got to replicate what I wanted as a “complete Jiverz Concert experience” ! . We received wide media appreciation too. Tracy Chapman & Scorpions & more of epic Clapton were added to our setlist alongwith more of Dire Straits ( Walk of Life & Sultans of Swing ) . We started to take audiences requests too..
In Dec 2022 we had our first performance at CRC ( many were to subsequently follow ) . We realized that we had to get the crowd dancing too and we had to adapt our set list accordingly. This was always with the intention of having a correct balance between pure concert numbers & punchy dance numbers. We added artists like Santana( Black Magic Woman ) , Doobie Brothers ( Long Train Runnin) , Rolling Stones ( Miss You ) , Tina Turner ( Simply the Best ) . We now had more upbeat & rock & roll songs in our repertoire. At all times The Jiverz journey was that of evolving without much of compromise to our core elements of classic Retro Rock. Incidentally this 31st Dec 2025 , we shall be playing at CRC once again.
The Jiverz were then soon invited by the State Govt for their first Allen Park Concert on the 27th of Dec 2022. This was a rocking success. Day 1 had Blue Mist , Day 2 – Jiverz & Day 3 - Urban Monkz. Jiverz had the highest online views of over 22,000. There were over 5,000 in Allen Park itself. We suddenly realized that we could also attract large crowds to listen to songs with high musicality. We added Queen ( I want to Break Free ) & Bryan Adams ( Summer of 69 ) & Michael Buble ( Sway ) to out setlist. We got wider media attention & an online fan following which lasts us till date. We were invited to Allen Park again in 2023 with a performance lasting the whole evening and this was with greater success and Media attention.
In March of 2023 we had our first Public Concert at the Princeton Club. This was to a full house and we realized that commercially Retro Rock would survive, and there were very few bands in the city playing pure Retro Rock. By now musically we too had grown considerably and we depended on each other musically and otherwise.
In June of 2023 we had our first concert at The Dalhousie Institute. They loved their dance so much and we had to adapt our set list accordingly so that they would be attracted to pure Retro Rock with more relevant known numbers they could identify with and have their share of dancing fun as well. This was such a huge success that they called us back on the 31st of Dec 2023 for a whole night of Rock & Roll. We had over a 1000 members dancing till 2 am. ( playing 4 hours of continuous music ).
In Sept 2023 we were called back at CRC for a “Come Sept night”. We recognised that faster / upbeat rock & roll numbers were equal substitutes to pure dance numbers. Beatles Medley , Elvis Presley ( Blue Sued Shoes ) , Connie Francis ( Stupid Cupid ) , Chuck Berry ( Johnny B Good ), Bob Seiger ( Old time Rock & Roll ) and good old CCR ( Hello Mary Lou ) etc were our gradual transitions.
On 20th of Nov 2023 , we were called back to Tolly Club for our 2nd Concert. By then we were beginning to have a large fan following in Tolly Club. They got in touch with the band on a personal basis and subsequently we performed in Tolly Club in total 5 times including their sports carnival ( in the 3 years ) !
My ex school La Martiniere ALMA called us for a special open air concert in Dec of 2023. This was a rip roaring success and had over a 1000 attendees. We received wide Media coverage for this performance
In between we were called to play in a number of prestigious private concerts at the Taj Hotel & at the Army campus. They were hosted by NRI’s and we had a lot of relaxed fun at these customized intimate concerts with a mix of both music for easy listening & hard punchy numbers. Clapton / Mayall ( Crossroads ) ,Bad Company ( Ready for Love ) , CCR ( Proud Mary ) etc were added to our list. We are very choosey in playing at these gatherings.
We had our 1st Concert at Saturday Club in May of 2024. This was quite a challenge as we stuck to only good old English Retro Rock and we were initially apprehensive. Surprisingly, we were called back to Saturday Club next year in Jan of 2025 as they loved our versions of fast foot tapping numbers. We firmly understood that Retro Rock crossed all barriers of club cultures and members could relate to good music with their very own musical interpretations…we have subsequently played a number of times at Saturday Club on special occassions to crowds of 500 + in Inter Club Carnivals.
Our first concert at CCFC was on 1st Dec 2024 ( ironically this was fixed on the 30th of Nov but was shifted due to bad weather ) . We played again at CCFC on the 30th of Nov 2025. Exactly a year apart to a full house !
2025 has been a milestone year for Jiverz and January began with a bang ! We were invited to play at the prestigious Taj Falaknama Palace in Hyderbad which was attended by the US Ambassador . We were the first Indian Band to ever perform within the Taj Premises. This was our maiden tour outside the city.
In January last year we were invited to perform at the PGI Tour final by the Tata’s at Tolly Club. This was attended by Kapil Dev and he loved our music. This helped us get invited for our next tour in Delhi later in March 2025 at the prestigious Delhi Golf club. This was attended by our 1000 guests and was a great success.
Earlier in June 2025, we were again invited by Tolly Club ( to perform for the 6th time ) . This was an epic concert lasting 3 hours and we played to a full house & very well covered by the Media.
In August of 2025 , we performed at the Lake Club lawns for the first time at their Anniversary celebrations . We had an attendance of over 1000 members / guests. Sucheta was away on a holiday in UK and we had Simone Abigale substituting.
Our recent concert at CCFC on the 30th of Nov 2025. We played for 3 hours to a full house at the oldest cricket & football club in Asia and our repertoire included Pink Floyd ( Comfortably Numb ) , Chris Stapelton ( Tennessee Whiskey ) , 4 Non Blondes ( Whats Up ) , Guns & Roses ( Sweet Child of Mine ) ,Laura Branigan ( Self Control ) . The evening was even more special as we had tennis ace Tony Roche attending alongwith our long standing fan Jaideep Mukherjee. Both are our fans...
We performed in Allen Park for the 3rd time last December. We were invited by the Police once again this year and was a great honour yet again. We played pro bono supporting the Police in their musical endeavors.
On the 29th of December 2025 , we took part in the final day of the Winter Fiesta at Calcutta Club. Was a great honour for Jiverz to perform on the final 4th day of the festival , after Amit Kumar , Aparna Sen & Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.
On the 31st of Dec 2025 we played at CRC. This was a marathon 4 hour Concert and we wound up playing foot tapping dance numbers well past midnight. CRC was great fun anfd like one big family ! They want us back again on the 31st of Dec this year !
Our first Concert this year was at the Kalakrit festival at Saturday Club. This is the second year they wanted us back ! And this was an outstanding festival as we played on the final night to a full house. T2 covered us for this program.
We were called back to perform at Tolly Club by PGI Tour for the 2nd time on the 15th of Feb 2026. This was a closed concert attended by top professional golfers from across the world.
On the 20th of Feb 2026 , we performed at Tolly Club ( perhaps for the 6th time ) , our very first at the Pantiles. This was perhaps our smallest Concert till date and we did this mainly to keep our fan following in Tolly Club happy. We finished late into the night and after 3 encores !
On popular demand we are back in Skinny Mo's for the 3rd time on Sunday , 6th of Sept 2026. We had played in Skinny Mo's earlier on the 7th of June 2026 to a full house as we were sold out !
